A ring should sit close enough to stay put through a full day, and loose enough to come off without a fight. Getting the size right the first time makes the difference — here is how to measure at home before you order.
Measure an existing ring
The most reliable method: take a ring that already fits the intended finger well, lay it flat, and measure the inside diameter in millimeters with a ruler. Compare that number to the size chart on each product page. If you're between two sizes, size up — a ring that's slightly loose is more comfortable long-term than one that pinches.
Measure your finger directly
Wrap a strip of paper or thread snugly around the base of the finger, mark where it overlaps, then measure that length in millimeters. Do this at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest, and avoid measuring when your hands are cold — both affect the result by half a size or more.
A few things that affect sizing
- Dominant hands tend to run slightly larger than the non-dominant hand.
- Wider bands (like a stacking band) fit more snugly than thin bands at the same stated size, since more metal touches the finger.
- Knuckle size matters as much as the base of the finger — if a knuckle is noticeably larger, size for the knuckle, not just the base.
Adjustable and interchangeable styles
Several Loretana designs — including pieces from our interchangeable collection — are made with a gentle adjustable band, giving a little flexibility either side of your exact size. This is a practical option if you're sizing for a gift and aren't fully sure of the recipient's size.
